In the last two decades Dubai has become one of the hottest business and vacation spots on the planet. Dubai is a city of fascinating contrasts. A visitor will experience traditional Arab culture set within a dynamic ultra-modern city with new attractions springing up virtually every day. Dubai is a city of fascinating contrasts. In Dubai one can see dusty traditional villages only minutes from fantastically luxurious residential districts. Rugged mountains and shifting sand dunes are only a few miles from pristine sandy beaches and lush green parks. Shoppers can savor Dubai's traditional market places or visit some of the most modern and largest indoor shopping malls in the world. Visitors to Dubai also have a choice of many luxury hotels, since virtually all the major hotel chains have a presence in the city. But for a more authentic Dubai experience visitors can rent a beautifully furnished apartment or villa for a week or more in one of Dubai's newer residential areas. Dubai holiday apartment rentals offer visitors more space for less money, and provide a unique perspective on this exciting city. Many New Developments Underway The fantastic pace of development taking place in Dubai makes it one of the most ultra-modern cities in the world. The city skyline is now dominated by futuristic skyscrapers such as the Emirates Towers and Burj Al-Arab, the world's tallest hotel. The Mall of the Emirates is the largest shopping center outside of North America and features one of the world's only indoor ski slopes. And Dubai also features one of the few fully lit 18 hole golf courses in the world. Many other large developments and attractions are also underway in Dubai. Just a few of these are: - Dubai Mall - the largest indoor mall in the world when completed. - Burj Dubai - the tallest skyscraper in the world - scheduled to be completed in 2008. Dubai World Central to include the new Dubai World Central International Airport along with the world's largest transportation hub. The new airport and transport terminal will be ten times larger than the present Dubai International Airport facilites. - The Dubai Waterfront project will be the largest waterfront and largest man-made development in the world. It will be a series of canals and artificial islands housing a number of commercial, residential, and resort zones. Shopping is King in Dubai The attraction that brings the most tourists to Dubai is the shopping. Market places and malls throughout the city stock an incredible array of consumer goods and draw millions of shopping tourists every year. Shoppers come from all parts of the Middle East and Europe, and even from as far away as Eastern Europe, India, and North America. The souks of Dubai offer the most interesting shopping experience in Dubai. These traditional Arabic markets are located on either side of Dubai creek running through the city. The Spice Souk and the Gold Souk are the two most popular. Here shoppers can find exotic items brought in from points across the Middle East and the Orient. Bargaining in traditional middle eastern style is usually an important part of shopping in the souks. While still vibrant and exciting, the souks are meeting stiff competition from more western style shopping. New development has meant that shiny new shopping malls and upscale boutiques can now be found throughout the city. These new stores sell virtually any consumer items you can imagine: electronics, furnishings, clothing, cars, jewellery, sporting equipment, luxury items, household goods - you name it and you can probably find it in the shopping malls of Dubai. The Duty Free complex at the Dubai International Airport is also one of the most extensive and largest in the world. New projects such as the Dubai World Central International Airport will have even larger duty free areas. These and many more attractions make Dubai a favorite destination of tourists and an important hub for business travelers from around the world. Future developments are likely to enhance Dubai's status as a world class business center and a haven for tourists in search of a unique and exciting adventure.
